OUR STORY

Tio Ōhiwa is a Māori-owned oyster farm and takeaway shop located in Ōhiwa, Bay of Plenty, Aotearoa. Our story began with a deep love for the ocean and its kaimoana (seafood), and has developed into a story of building up Māori business and the Bay of Plenty are. The Ōhiwa Oyster Farm started in 1968 with a lease of 2.2 hectares, after 54 years in operation and multiple owners, in 2023 the farm has been brought into the hands of Ngāti Awa descendants. We are passionate about carrying the legacy of oyster farming at Ōhiwa into the future with our values of sustainability, community, and innovation.
